FAQ and Terms of Use

1) Can I use your images? or What are your Terms of Use?

If you wish to use any of Michelle’s work the following rules must be followed:

1a) Michelle Parker’s images cannot be used on any pay or commercial site.

1b) Michelle Parker’s images cannot be used on any site promoting hatespeech, criminal activity or pornography.

1c) Any of Michelle’s work that is displayed MUST be clearly labeled with “Copyright Michelle Parker.” A link or reference to www.knotwyrks.com must be included with the image.

1d) If you wish to use more than one of Michelle’s images on your own site, please send her a link so that she can add you to her links page. Please do not use more than five of her images on your site, as she does not want the confusion of multiple galleries of her work. If you feel you have a good reason for posting more than 5 images, please contact her first, so that she can decide if she wishes to give you permission.

1e) Images may only be altered for use in sigs or tags. No other alteration of images is allowed. If the images, altered or otherwise are to be used in a sig or tag, it MUST be clearly labeled with “Source art copyright Michelle Parker”. A link or reference to www.knotwyrks.com must be included on the image.

1f) Do not link directly to her images. We must pay for the bandwidth on this site, and bandwidth theft can become a big problem, potentially disabling the site to others. Download the image to your own computer to use.

2) Can I buy prints of your pictures?

Most of the art on this site has prints available. The pricing information is located underneath the image on the individual image pages. I currently accept only checks and money orders. Please contact me via email for more information. I will have a downloadable (PDF) catalog and order form available soon.

3) How long have you been drawing?

I’ve been drawing fantasy art since 1992, but have been drawing for longer than I remember. I’ve done it constantly and never stop.

4) How did you learn to draw?

I’ve kept trying to make marks looks like what I want to until they do. Mostly. I’m still learning. I have a huge collection of art and how-to books that I flip through whenever I get a spare moment. I’ve had a few fantastic art teachers, and some not so good ones as well. Mostly I spend a lot of time looking at the world around me, thinking of how I might put it on paper, and practicing. Constant practicing. Every piece I do, I consider practice and experimentation.

5) What media/techniques do you use?

What DON’T I use?!

Lately, I’ve been working in an ink, watercolor, and colored pencil combination that has been working very well for me. I have a Work In Process up on WetCanvas that shows some of this process. Dragon Dancing WetCanvas Step-by-Step

6)Where do you get your ideas from?

I read a lot, watch a lot of movies, and look at the world around me. It all kind of mushes up in my head with half-rememberd mythology and fully-recalled research to dribble out in whatever form it decides to take. Sometimes *I* don’t know where the idea came from, it just works at the time.

For instance, The Naga’s Pool came about because I was looking at a friend’s sari collection, and planning a shopping trip for one of my own, and that combined with the color of a scarf I had beside my bathroom mirror and a recollection of the tradition of a painted elephant festival held in India. Boom - out the picture comes. It kind of took me by surprise, like they often do.

7) I'd like to commission you for my project. We haven't published/found a buyer/finished writing the project yet, so don't have an art budget, but you will be paid as soon as the item starts selling.

Unfortunately, I am too busy trying to get all of my own ideas down on paper to be able to do others’ for free.

8)Will you draw So and So, My Character, or This Great Idea for me?

Unfortunately, I am too busy trying to get all of my own ideas down on paper, and I take very few commisions these days.

9)Can I get a tattoo of one of your images?

That’s between you and your tattoo artist. I have no problem with people getting tattoos of my images, and as a matter of fact, would LOVE to see pictures of anyone who has any done. I know there’s at least one out there, and it’s lovely. HOWEVER, I do not allow tattoo artists to offer my images for sale as tattoos. It’s a subtle, but distinct difference. If you are a tattoo artist, and you would like to negotiate a licensing agreement with me, please contact me via email. If you have any questions that haven't been answered here, please feel free to email us about them.
